Actors Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao fronted horror comedy Stree 2 is already breaking records from day one of its release. The film, which released in cinemas onAugust 15, is off to a flying start at the box office, lodging itself in the list of one of the best advance bookings of all times.

A day before its all-India release on Thursday, Stree 2 held select paid previews 9.30 PM onwards, which recorded bumper response, setting a new benchmark at the box office. The horror comedy broke the long-standing paid preview record of Shah Ruk Khan’s Chennai Express, which had earned Rs 6.75 cr nett in 2013. Stree 2 is now the number one film, netting close to Rs 8 crore according to early trade estimates.

Paid preview isn’t the only benchmark Stree 2 has set, as the mid-size film has gone past some of the biggest films of all times in terms of its advance booking for day one. In the national multiplex chains, Stree 2 sold 3,92,000 tickets (excluding paid previews) for day one on August 14, a day before its wide scale release.

As far as advance booking for day one at national multiplexes is concerned, the film comfortably cruised past biggies like Salman Khan’s Tiger 3, Ranbir Kapoor’s Brahmastra and Aamir Khan’s Thugs of Hindostan.

In terms of advance booking ranking, Stree 2 is seventh on the list, behind films like Baahubali 2 Hindi (6,50,000 tickets), Jawan (5,57,000), Pathaan (5,56,000), KGF 2 Hindi (5,15,000), Animal (4,60,000) and War (4,10,000).

When it comes to the overall advance bookings, Stree 2 is on a rampage, selling 8,24, 483 tickets in single screens and multiplexes. The gross collection for the same stands at a whopping Rs 23.36 cr, as reported by Sacnilk.

What makes Stree 2’s utter domination at the box office noteworthy is that it has been able to do so with a three-way clash, as it faced two other films headlined by A-list stars. Stree 2 released with Akshay Kumar’s comedy Khel Khel Mein and John Abraham’s actioner Vedaa, and both the films recorded a poor start in ticket sales.

In national multiplex chains, Khel Khel Mein sold merely 28,000 tickets, while its over-all sales stood at 47,202, amounting to a gross of Rs 1.54 cr. Vedaa also fared low, recording 22,000 ticket sales in national chains and 61,040 as its cumulative figure. The gross ticket sales of the actioner are Rs 1.49 cr.

The trade is expecting Stree 2 to take an opening of Rs 40 cr and with Rs 8 cr already coming in from paid previews, the final collection for day one can even surpass Rs 50 cr. Vedaa and Khel Khel Mein are expected to open in the range of Rs 5-7 cr.
